Funding Sources

The Second Step funds its $1.8 million annual operating budget through a combination of 50% public grants and 50% private contributions.

Public Funding
The Second Step receives federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Public Health (DPH); state funding from Department of Social Services (DSS) through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and city funding through the City of Newton Community Block Development (CDBG) grants.

Philanthropic Support
The Second Step also relies on private gifts from individuals, groups, foundations, companies, and other community partners.  This support is crucial to the success of our work.  Every gift counts.
