The Second Step is proud to partner with FamilyAid to enhance housing support for domestic violence survivors. Effective February 15, 2025, The Second Step will rely on FamilyAid to operate its shelter for low-income survivors experiencing homelessness. This partnership allows The Second Step to focus on delivering specialized, survivor-centered services while leveraging FamilyAid’s housing expertise.
This collaboration reflects The Second Step’s commitment to adapting to survivors’ evolving needs amid rising housing costs and systemic barriers to permanent housing. Families in the shelter will benefit from both The Second Step’s domestic violence services and FamilyAid’s housing stabilization resources. Additionally, The Second Step will train FamilyAid staff to ensure trauma-informed, survivor-centered care across all its shelters.
The Second Step remains dedicated to helping survivors and their children stabilize, heal and thrive through:
- Legal Services: Representation in abuse prevention orders, family law, immigration, housing, and education matters.
- Intervention & Advocacy: Trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, and support groups.
- Emergency Assistance Funds: Flexible financial aid to help families escape danger and achieve stability.
- Prevention, Education, Awareness: The Second Step is also expanding its outreach and education efforts, including the recent hiring of its first Director of Prevention and Education.
Complex challenges require creative collaborative solutions like this one. This strategic partnership strengthens The Second Step’s ability to provide survivors with the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives. The Second Step is grateful to the Greater Boston community for its continued support in this bold step toward lasting impact.
