The Second Step is thrilled to announce that Julie Lima, MSW, most recently of the YMCA of Greater Boston and Cradles to Crayons, will be leading TSS as its next Executive Director. Julie will take over from Matthew Swoveland, who leaves TSS after five years to be closer to family out west.

Julie brings a wealth of nonprofit leadership and development experience, and is excited to work with the dynamic team of survivors, advocates, volunteers, and supporters who make up The Second Step’s community. A Newton resident, Julie is committed to deepening the many relationships within Newton and Greater Boston that have formed the foundation of the organization’s growth over the past 27 years, while also expanding its reach through partnerships and collaborations. She and her team will continue The Second Step’s trajectory of growth through depth, ensuring that all services to survivors of domestic violence are inclusive, responsive, grounded in survivors’ needs, and supportive of well-being over the long term.

Julie begins working in collaboration with Matt this month, and will be fully established in her role in August. Both she and Matt look forward to a smooth and effective transition, and are available for anyone interested in details of the transition or the organization’s strategic direction. They can be reached at jlima@thesecondstep.org and mswoveland@thesecondstep.org, respectively.
